Summer is Here, Garden in Full Bloom

The growing season is humming along thanks to a group of Rose Hill neighbors who have rolled up their sleeves and slipped on their work gloves. Genny and Carl Messmer spearheaded the community garden project which has become a fruitful and colorful addition to The Views at Rose Hill.
â€œLast year, the Messmers, Giddens and Sotriffers worked together to restore the raised bed area and amended the soil,â€ Genny said. â€œBefore that, I had never grown vegetables! It is a lot of trial and error, but an enjoyable experience for all of us. Each year we learn something new.â€
Several additional homeowners became involved in the garden once plots became available. Linda Fitz Hugh and Janet Sullivan helped with cultivation, planning and maintenance. The only requirements here are to keep everything looking good and make sure to pick your vegetables.
â€œSince we were beginners in our last season, we had an overload of tomatoes,â€ remembers Genny. â€œSo we started giving vegetables to other neighbors and donating to the nearby community center. I bet we gave the center 50 lbs. of tomatoes. This year itâ€™s the kaleâ€¦ kale coming out of our ears!â€
This year they welcomed the Watsons, Kilkers and Guagliardos to the gardening gang, and the garden plots are bursting with yellow squash, zucchini, cucumbers, peppers, green beans, kale, five types of tomatoes, wildflowers and a variety of herbs. The group just harvested all of the radishes and spinach, and the lettuces continue to hold their own. Also in full swing is â€œCarlâ€™s Berry Patch.â€ Here you will find raspberry bushes that Carl trucked all the way from Minnesota to Rose Hill.
If you enjoy gardening, all residents are welcome to participate. If gardening is not your thing, there are plenty of veggies to share. Stop by the garden to check it out - you might enjoy the hummingbirds sipping from the newly blooming gladiolas, or smell the new blooms on the magnolia tree next to the garden beds, or strike up a friendly conversation with the gardeners. Sounds like there is going to be a bumper crop this year at The Views at Rose Hill.

The spring-summer construction season is well underway at The Views at Rose Hill and picking up steam.
Six homes are under construction, with half of those already under contract. For flexibility with gracious living, available floor plans range from 1,300 square feet to more than 2,300 square feet.
